Orchard Park High School

intrepid Duke of Edinburgh participants learn new skills

Students completed their expedition at the end of June.

One of the four elements of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award is the expedition element. We took 24 students on the training expedition from 6th to 7th June, and again from 27th to 28th June, to St Ives Camping Farm in Sussex. This gave our participants the opportunity to learn and practice the skills needed for the assessed expedition in October. These skills included map reading, navigation, camp craft and learning about the Countryside Code.

They were a fantastic group of students. There was lots of laughter, new skills were learnt and new friends were made.

All participants showed Drive, Collaboration, Integrity and Excellence over the two days. The highlight of both trips were the fellow campers that came over to commend our students. We were also grateful to a local resident that was at the campsite who contacted the school to inform Ms Moran, our Headteacher, how well our students performed.

We are all now looking forward to the assessed expedition in October.
