Orchard Park High School

Black History Month 2024

Our BHM creative arts competition has launched!

Black History Month creative arts competition

Following on from Equality Club’s Black History Month assemblies this week, Mrs Hussain has launched our Black History Month creative arts competition.

The school is inviting students to celebrate industrial pioneers, amazing role models and individuals who are of Afro-Caribbean descent by creating a portrait or piece of writing that captures their achievements or the positive impact they have had. Be it Benjamin Zephaniah, Bukayo Saka, Malorie Blackman, Zadie Smith or even grandma. In words: this could be a poem, piece of writing or musical lyrics you have written. As a portrait: this could be a painting, drawing, collage, digital illustration or sculpture.

The deadline is Friday 8th November at 15:00. Please hand in your work to Mrs Husain in ART3.

Expeditions

Thank you to Ms Feist, Ms Byrne, Ms Coupland and Mr Fallon for taking our Year 11 geography students on their field trip to Stratford. The students were excellent at collecting their data and, as usual, their conduct on the trip was exemplary. We are also grateful to Ms Baatjies, Ms Feist and Mr Warbuton who are currently camping with our Duke of Edinburgh expedition. They are all reported to be well, although very muddy!

Staff appointments

I am pleased to announce two staff appointments: Ms Ongley has been appointed as Acting Deputy Headteacher leading on Behaviour and Attitudes and KS3, and Ms Palmieri has been appointed as our SENDCo. They are two excellent teachers who serve and lead our community with commitment, ambition and care.

Reminder

A reminder that Friday 18th October is a staff inset day. No students will be on site on that day.
