Orchard Park High School

Students head off on their Duke of edinburgh expedition

Students completed their Duke of Edinburgh trek this weekend.

On Friday 24th May, Mr West took a group of Year 10 students to represent the school at an extremely competitive Croydon Athletics Competition. We are immensely proud to announce that three students won medals against some of the best athletes in the whole of Croydon. An honourable mention goes to Frank, who made it to the 200m final. The three students that went on to win a medal are:

  • Denzel – third in high jump
  • Nyshel – second in long jump
  • Ubaydah – third in shot put

Our Year 7 Excellence Pathway students visited the Science Museum this week, accompanied by Mr Afriyie. They visited different galleries, including the Energy Hall and the Mathematics gallery.

Our boys' Year 8 football team won their first Croydon Schools Football League title. It was not without its twists and turns, including a hard fought battle with Thomas Moore School for the top spot. The title was to be decided on the league deadline day as OPHS won their final league game vs Oasis Coulson. We are incredibly proud of every single member of the squad for their tremendous efforts, commitment and attitude throughout the season. A shout-out goes to our club captains Tommy and Ibrahim for their leadership and quality both on and off the pitch. Mr Headley is honoured to work with such an amazing group of young people. Hats off to the team, and hopefully let's build on this for next year.

This week’s assemblies were led by Mr Clarke, supported by Sophia in Year 7. Mr Clarke talked about Pride month and the need for tolerance and respect for all members of our society. We are proud to have such an active, courageous and inspiring Equality Club leading the way at Orchard Park.

Ms Baatjies is currently with the Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition, who are having a fantastic time. The students are a credit to us, taking on each challenge with enthusiasm and being very supportive of each other. Two highlights were finding the group just sitting quietly at the water’s edge, chatting amongst themselves (no phone in sight). The second, when a gentleman from the neighbouring campsite came over to commend our students on their wonderful manners.

Finally, our Friends of Orchard Park (PTA) are now on Easy Fundraiser. You can use it whenever you shop online. Over 7,000 brands give a donation to us, and it is free to use. These donations add up to make a BIG difference. It only takes a moment to register. Please sign up and help us raise money to provide further resources and opportunities for our students.
