Rain on sports day did not stop play!
It was great to see so much team spirit.
Sports day this year took place on Friday 14th July and was held at Croydon Athletics Arena, a professional 400m, eight lane track that caters for all disciplines.
On the day, all students were allowed to enter up to three individual events, in addition to the 4 x 100m relays, that contribute points to the winning tutor group and for the first year winning school house.
Even with the wet weather conditions, the students and staff did not let it dampen the sense of competition and fun and it was great to observe such team spirit and talent on display.
After an exciting day of competition, the winning tutor groups were:
- Year 7 - Attenborough
- Year 8 - Parks
- Year 9 - Rashford
- Year 10 - Attenborough
In terms of the most prestigious award, the house winners, the title goes to Rashford.
There were also some memorable individual achievements. Jojo, one of our fastest students, finished with a jaw dropping time of 11.09 seconds for the 100m, and was asked how he felt after his win. He answered: “The vibe was in the room with us.”
Bianca, in Year 10, said: “This year’s competition was truly unique and outstanding compared to previous years. The level of competition, respect, and sportsmanship was exhilarating and heart pumping. I am so proud to have represented my form in three events and this sports day will be a memory I shall hold on to in the years to come.”
Justice, in Year 8, came first in the 100m sprint. He said: “Sports day was an enjoyable experience for me. The atmosphere was filled with excitement. I even managed to come first in the 100m and second in the 200m.”
