To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, assemblies this week were led by Mr Clarke, commemorating the millions of lives taken in the genocide. He shared accounts from survivors and showed students what they can do in service to this year’s theme ‘a better future’.
This week, all students were introduced to our new careers platform Unifrog. Unifrog partners with universities and employers to provide impartial, bespoke advice to pupils on future careers and further study. Students said they found these sessions very useful as they enthusiastically completed their profiles to explore which pathway may be best suited to them.
On Wednesday, Mr Baksh and Ms Devane arranged for 70 of our most gifted mathematicians in Year 9 and 10 to take part in the UK Intermediate Maths Challenge, a timed challenge in exam conditions. The aim of the competition is to promote maths learning and develop children's problem-solving skills. It consists of a multiple-choice paper and students are given 60 minutes to answer the questions. In preparation, students worked diligently on past challenges both in class and at home. We eagerly await the publication of their results in the last week of February and look forward to celebrating the outcome of their hard work.
Year 8 students on our Excellence Pathway spent today on an A.I.M. High Writing Day event at Bishop Challoner School. The event was organised in association with 'Authors Abroad'. The students worked with one of the UK's leading performance poets and authors, Neal Zetter, learning how poetry can be used to develop literacy, self-expression, confidence, creativity and their own presentation skills. Thank you to Mr Afriye, Ms Powlesland and Ms Carr for arranging and facilitating the experience.
