A positive week
Year 11 students performed their dance at the Jack Petchey Awards celebration.
Firstly, it was wonderful to see so many families at Year 11 parents’ evening yesterday. As many of you know, we returned to holding them in person as soon as we could. It was a lovely evening filled with positive news and helpful information on how to ensure GCSE success.
On Wednesday, our Jack Petchey winners were celebrated at the Croydon regional awards. Congratulations go to Soriyah, Carly, Amalie, Sophie, George, Albert, Ayobami, Patrick and Emeka who received nominations for their excellent commitment to our school values. Another well done goes to Serena and Carly in Year 11 for their beautiful performance of their dance piece ‘Revelations’: they were great ambassadors for the school. Thank you to Ms Ongley for supporting our students.
We competed in the Year 8 Sportshall Athletics at Archbishop Lanfranc on the same evening. My thanks to Ms Goodwin for taking the children. She would like to praise Keyanna, Kelly, Amara, Taliyah, Gabby, Emeka, Las, Sean W and Jahmal. Gabby and Keyanna won the 2x2 lap relay and Sean and Jahmal won the 6 lap Paarlauf. The team also won the Obstacle Relay and the 4x2 lap relay (both very comfortably). The students found the field events more challenging and provided lots of support to each other throughout. The girls’ team came fourth overall, and the boys came fourth (even more impressive as they were without one member meaning they took on extra events and were very tired towards the end!).
Today, 38 Year 11 students travelled to the Euro Space Centre in Belgium (they will also be visiting a Christmas market). My huge thanks to Mr Alabi, Mr Ramnarain, Ms Coupland and Ms Friday for accompanying the children, especially for the very early start.
We also held our Vocabulary Bee for Year 7 this afternoon. Many of them were revising with friends in the playground at lunchtime and in the library. Thank you to Mr Douglas for organising such a great event and well done to Attenborough House for winning.
A few key dates for the next few weeks:
- Wednesday 13th December – Christmas lunch
- Friday 15th December – Christmas Jumper Day
- Tuesday 19th December – last day of term
- Wednesday 3rd January – Year 11 return to school
- Thursday 4th January – Years 7 to 10 return to school
Yours sincerely
Ms Moran, Headteacher
